I was in Bangladesh in July 2007. I came into Bangladesh from the Indian state of Tripura. The afternoon was growing old and I couldn't find a good place to get some local currency. So I sold some Indian money at a bad rate. The people in Bangladesh are generally among the most friendly of anywhere I have been in the world. I had food given to me, always people helping me find my way. It is a place that feels like the coast even if the coast is hundreds of kilometers away. Always there is water nearby. It is poor, very poor. It is without tourist. It's among the top places I can recommend for people to see in Asia. Most of the Muslim countries I have been to are very nice culturally, but I never feel comfortable with the sexual roles and separation. I naturally socialize more with women and in these countries there is always more of a barrier.
