I passed through Bosnia in the middle of May 2005. Bosnia and the Republika Srpska are one country in a federation. They seem sort of like separate countries though. In the end I decided to make two separate pages, one for Bosnia and one for the Republika Srpska. Bosnia was one of the most old fashioned parts of Europe I have so far been to. A lot of the farm work was being done by hand. People stopped to wave at the train. I most visable difference between Bosnia and Srpska is there are a lot of minarets in Bosnia but I saw almost none in Srpska. There was also a lot of visible damage from the wars of the 1990s. Several people said I shouldn’t go to the Balkans. I found them to be very nice and friendly. It was also nice to hear the Muslim call to prayer. It always gives me chicken skin.
