I was really looking forward to Ethiopia. But I needed to get a visa and I was in Djibouti. I just wanted to leave. The last straw was the price of the visa. Many countries have one price for everyone in the world and another price if you carry a US passport. A much higher price. In Ethiopia's case it was about three times more, this was scrawled at the bottom of the visa information posted at the Ethiopian embassy in messy handwriting. This has always pissed me off but Djibouti already had me angry. I'd have to stay in Djibouti an extra two days as well. So I'd had it and I booked a same day flight to Kenya. As it turned out this flight stopped for about an hour at the airport in Addis Ababa. So I've at least been in Ethiopia even if I haven't seen any of it yet. Better luck next time. This was in May 2008.
