So far I've been to Romania twice. However both times I passed through almost without stopping. So I can't say I've really gotten to know the country very well. It seemed richer the second time I passed through. Maybe because I was on roads instead of rails, and I was passing through Transylvania, which is a bit different from the rest of the country. For one thing I noticed some signs were in German in that part of the country. Yet again it is a place to return to sometime. I first passed through in May 2005, and the next time was April 2006.

What I believe is the largest pile of garbage I've seen, this is outside Bucharest. It smelled really really awful. May 2005. |

For years in different parts of the world I have seen horse drawn carriages. I mean real working ones, not for tourists. It always seems I am in a car or train without my camera out and miss taking a picture. Then I finally got a shot. Not the best shot but better than nothing. April 2006. |
