San Marino is another one of those microstates. It is quite a beautiful place. The Italian countryside laid out below it looks like a painting. It is especially nice if you arrive early in the morning. It is a tourist trap. But like many other tourist traps I've come across it is a very nice place if you get there before the tourists wake up. This is a benefit of sleeping on trains and buses sometimes. If they get in early you can hop right off ready to explore. I was here in May 2005.
