Transnistria is an interesting country. It isn't recognized by anyone else, yet it has it's own money, border control etc. The border was interesting. It is easy to see this isn't a wealthy place, none of the uniforms even matched. Even though I have heard horror stories of this place they were nice. The guard even said he was happy I was visiting the country. And the charge at the time was about US$0.50. Less than 1% of what Moldova charged me. So even though this is supposed to be an evil mafia regime I have a soft spot for it. I had a plan to go to Tiraspol and look around but I spent too much time in Chisinau finding my bus. So next time I guess. This was in April 2006. I finally made it to Tiraspol as a side trip from Ukraine in August 2009. It was an interesting town. Feels very USSR. A feeling agreed to by Oxana who was with me for the Ukraine trip.
